Using SMART boards in the Classroom
"The SMART board is a use of technology that teachers can use to engage students in the classroom. The technology allows for you to complete different tasks that will allow for student centered learning. Some teachers are afraid of using new technology because it will call for more responsibilities on our part. We would have to take training classes and sometimes have to instruct colleagues at our schools. Integrating any form of technology into the classroom will allow for students to use a variety of skills at once. The students are interested in the content and wanting to learn more. The SMART board has given lots of positive effects on the learning of students in the classroom. So, why are states not funding their schools with the best technology to help the learning of the students?...."

I love learning how to use new technology in the classroom. I have had a SmartBoard in my classroom for the last four years and I would hate to know I had to give it up! My students love it as well. Anytime something new comes to our district's attention we try to do our best to get it. However, with the recent budget cuts in education in our state (SC) it is difficult for us to purchase these items. We have been writing grants and this year the school in which I work was fortunate to receive a grant. With the grant, we were able to purchase a laptop cart for each fifth grade teacher. The cart contains 27 netbooks and it has been amazing to have because I was one of those fifth grade teachers. I cannot wait to hear ideas from my colleagues and how they are using technology in their classroom...so I may use them in mine.
